Blogger Question?

I want to make my blog WIDER but can't figure out how to do that. 
I also might want to add columns to BOTH sides of my newly wider blog, but alas, I can't figure that one out either. 

I've gone to layout and tried to change the template but they are all pretty much the same: narrow with one column.

Any suggestions????
