Trick Tiles

The other day I flipped through old magazines at the library and took some rough photos of things I liked with my phone.
I thought these fake tile wallpapers were kinda cool and maybe a good way to get the tile look on the cheap or use a test run, so to speak, to see if you'll like the look enough to commit to the real thing one day.

P.S. There have been a lack of posts lately because I'm struggling to find a theme for posts!  I'm tempted to just post a bunch of random rooms I like but then I'll basically be posting everything I "pinned" on pinterest.  So how do I make this blog different than pinterest...I've been trying not to repin every photo I like so that I have some new ones on the blog and I've tried to make each post about a theme...this tends to be a bit of work...which means I don't get to post as much as I'd like to.

World Market Shopping

I'm totally in love with the store World Market.  Admittedly, the quality is a bit cheap BUT for the budget minded like me, knock-offs suit me just fine.  And World Market has some pretty good Anthropologie knock-offs as well as lots of authentic Indian style goods.
Not to mention they sell Waialua Soda!
So, if I went shopping at World Market, here are some things I'd be tempted to buy -
(they just added a new catalogue...this is all from the old one now)

For a Parisan House:

 For a Bohemian House:

For an Eclectic House (can really think of another name for it):

*my favourite grouping...more my style*

And some random fun extras:
from top left: a cake transporter, a compost bin, magazine basket, cupcake cups, glass water jug, gift box

This store has everything.  Imported food and jewelry as well as stuff for every room in your house and garden.  Their rugs are really reasonable and so are their gift boxes/bags.

Mid-Week Laugh

Coconut Milk Mango

Sounds pretty fantastic, eh?  It is!
I splurged and bought one of the best smelling candles EVER.  Feels a bit ridiculous to spend $22 on a candle but it seriously smells goooood.

I got this one from Anthropologie.

Saguaro and the Updated Roadside Motel

I was flipping through my March Conde Nast Traveler magazine and came across this cool new hotel in Palm Springs called Saguaro.  It used to be a Holiday Inn (which I remember looking at when I was planning a trip to PS).  Its the same design team that redesigned the Ace Palm Springs hotel (Sydell Group) that put the fresh spill on this out-dated hotel.  I love how bright and clean it looks especially the exterior and poolside. I suddenly have a huge urge to visit Palm Springs.

This is such a fun trend in accommodations.  With so many great old buildings being demolished to make way for new ones...its SO nice to see these classics being refurbished and put to good use!
Side note: for those in Vancouver...all those sold signs for blocks down Cambie street makes me so sad!  there are so many cool homes with big yards from the 50s and 60s...all being torn down for new apartment buildings.  Reminds of Arcade Fire's Suburbs:
....
And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall
And all of the houses they built in the seventies finally fall
Meant nothin' at all
Meant nothin' at all
It meant nothing

.......

So can you understand?
Why I want a daughter while I'm still young
I wanna hold her hand
And show her some beauty
Before all this damage is done

Thats why these roadside remodels are so awesome.  Here are a few more note worthy re-dos

The Surf Lodge - in Montauk New York
Thunderbird - in Marfa Texas
The Jupiter Hotel - in Portland Oregon
